Liquid Silicon Rubber
AFP’s liquid silicone rubber (LSR) process produces soft, flexible, biocompatible components that are ideal for medical devices that have body contact, or require highly flexible, ultra-sealing capabilities. Our LSR parts feel like soft rubber, are stretchy and silky, and are skin safe.
Medical devices incorporate our LSR products for the following benefits:
Biocompatibility: medical grades are USP Class VI, ISO 10993-certified; non-cytotoxic; hypoallergenic; and latex-free.
Flexibility and comfort: the material is soft (5–80 Shore A), compressible, conforms to anatomy, and prevents pressure on tissue — meaning better seals and greater patient comfort.
Durability: LSR products are tear and fatigue resistant, UV stable, and have a wide temperature range (~ -50° C to 200° C).
Processing advantages: AFP’s LSR process is fast curing, automated, produces highly consistent dimensions, and is ideal for microparts. It permits easy overmolding onto plastics and metals.
Manufacturing Capabilities
- Material hardness range: Shore A 10-80
- Medical and standard material grades
- Multi-material molding: LSR overmolded onto plastic, metal, or ceramics
- Molded part precision: +/-0.08 mm in general (+/-0.02 mm/mm)
- Weight: 0.1 g to 5.4 g
- Cleanroom molding
Medical device OEMs should choose AFP’s LSR when applications require soft, sterilizable materials, complex molded geometries, overmolding capabilities, or components designed for human contact.
